On March 2, 2024, we had the honor of hosting Nathan and Aubrie Mertins’ wedding—a celebration that perfectly embodied their personalities and vision and our first ever event. Nathan and Aubrie’s story began in 2012 at a house party, introduced by a mutual friend who would later play a pivotal role in their lives by officiating their wedding. Their friendship grew over the years, forming a strong foundation built on shared experiences, laughter, and mutual respect. This deep-rooted connection was evident throughout their wedding day, as friends and family gathered to celebrate not just a marriage, but a partnership years in the making.

A Proposal Full of Surprises

Nathan’s proposal was a reflection of the couple’s love for meaningful moments and favorite places. He planned a date night at George’s, one of their go-to restaurants, followed by celebratory drinks and a few rounds of Rummy at The Elbow Room, their favorite bar. In between, Nathan suggested a quick stop at home, where he surprised Aubrie by getting down on one knee while her back was turned. Despite Nathan’s nervous energy that day, Aubrie was genuinely surprised. For someone who admits to having a hard time making decisions, she says that saying yes to Nathan was the easiest decision she’s ever made.

Touring the venue early in its renovation, Nathan and Aubrie were drawn to the building’s history while it was introducing modern elements. The original stained glass windows, a nod to the building’s past as a church, were preserved, while the main area was transformed into a clean, neutral canvas. This allowed their planner to bring their vision to life, knowing that the venue’s character would enhance any style or theme.

Nathan and Aubrie appreciated that The Sanctuary was designed to be adaptable, making it possible for any couple to transform the space to fit their unique vision. The blend of traditional and modern elements created the perfect backdrop for their elevated tropical luxe celebration.
